A discussion was held on the development of a national information system for monitoring the health of children

On 9 September 2014, a discussion was held in the Institute of Hygiene with the implementation of the project “Children's health monitoring information systems for the systematic monitoring of the health of children and purposeful health policy development and implementation” (NOR – LT 11 –SAM – 01 -01-TF-001) funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2009–2014 Programme No.LT11 "Public health initiatives".  
 
62 people took part in the discussion: public health care specialists working in educational institutions, municipal public health monitoring specialists, heads of public health offices, municipal doctors, representatives of the Ministry of Health and its subordinate institutions, and other developers of children's health policies.
 
Participants of the discussion were greeted by the Director of the Health Promotion Board of the Ministry of Health Audrius Ščeponavičius.
 
Project manager Šarūnas Alasauskas discussed the aims, activities and desirable results of the project “Children's health monitoring information systems for the systematic monitoring of the health of children and purposeful health policy development and implementation”.
 
During the implementation of the project, it is planned to provide all the Lithuanian general education institutions with computer equipment and teach the public health specialists how to work with the national children's health monitoring information system. A children's health monitoring model, children's health monitoring procedures in educational institutions and methodical recommendations for public and personal health specialists will also be prepared.
 
Head of the working group Aušra Želvienė familiarized the participants with children's health monitoring in Lithuania and foreign countries.
 
Discussions were later held in groups that talked about the concept of the children's health monitoring model, its aims, objectives and expected results; data, the contents of children's health certificates and other data sources, as well as organization procedures of children's health monitoring is schools and other relevant issues are necessary to monitor the health of children in schools.
